In 1971, he graduated from the physics faculty of Yerevan State University (ЕГУ) with the specialty "Radiophysics and Electronics". In 1976, he graduated from postgraduate studies at the Leningrad Physical and Technical Institute. A.F. Ioffe AN USSR. 1978 at the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute. M.I. Kalinin defended his candidate's thesis on "Electroliquid epitaxy of semiconductor films and multilayer structures". In the period from 1976 to 2007, he first worked in the problem laboratory of "Semiconductor materials and devices" as the head of the research group, and then as an associate professor at the Department of Physics of Semiconductors and Microelectronics of ESU. Since 2007, he is the owner. department "Technology of materials and structures of electronic technology" Engineering-physical institute RAU. Thus, she is the head of the scientific and educational laboratory "Semiconductor Electronics" jointly with the Institute of Radiophysics and Electronics of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the head of the group on new and renewable energy technologies at the research center for critical technologies created at RAU since 2010.
From 1983 to 1984, he worked at the Institute of Technical Physics of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Budapest.
Field of scientific activity: liquid and electro-liquid epitaxy of semiconductor compounds A3B5, thermophotovoltaic solar and thermal energy converters, photodetectors of the mid-IR range based on compounds A3B5, photovoltaic solar cells based on polymer and semiconductor heterostructures.
